Multiple climate zones in a single appliance
BioFresh technology is based on the observation that food stays optimally fresh when stored at just above freezing point. The temperature in the BioFresh drawers is therefore constantly maintained at just over 0°C. These drawers act as freshness safes, each of which offers optimal conditions for certain types of food – and all in just one appliance.
For even greater flexibility: BioFresh-Plus
In BioFresh-Plus appliances, the temperature in the top BioFresh safe can be set precisely to the required degree, and a sliding control allows you to set the required humidity. As a result, the compartment can either be used as a HydroSafe or a DrySafe. BioFresh and BioFresh-Plus technologies transform refrigerators into highly versatile storage spaces in which the broadest range of food can be stored under ideal conditions.
BioFresh safes at a glance
If the BioFresh safe is set to HydroSafe, the humidity increases, and the HydroSafe climate keeps unpackaged fruit, vegetables and salads crisp and fresh for much longer. Precision electronic controls enable the temperature to be accurately maintained at just over 0°C so, even with high humidity, food will not unintentionally freeze.
When the slider is open, the humidity falls and the BioFresh safe becomes a DrySafe. Low humidity conditions are ideal for storing packaged fish, meat and dairy products. When stored in this comparatively dry environment, these products retain their flavour for far longer than in a traditional refrigerator compartment – cheese, for example, for up to 100 days.
The BioFresh-Plus safe offers maximum flexibility. Its independent electronic control system means that you can set the top safe temperature to the exact degree. Fish and seafood stay fresh for longer at -2°C, whereas delicate tropical fruits are best kept at +6°C. With BioFresh-Plus the temperature in the top BioFresh safe can be quickly and precisely adjusted to accommodate whatever food you want to store.
Incidentally: a temperature of just over 0°C is perfect for storing fresh food but it's not necessarily the perfect consumption temperature. The full flavour of cheese only develops at room temperature and fruit tastes far better when it is not quite so cold. Even meat should be allowed to warm to room temperature before being cooked. Although you should store food in the refrigerator at a constantly cool temperature, you ought to remove it in good time before eating or cooking.
