Exploiting energy-saving potential to the max
We achieve the very highest energy efficiencies by making full use of all the potential savings offered by each and every component in our appliances, and this covers the functions, the features, the type of materials used and, last but not least, the electronic control system, which facilitates optimum interplay. Overall ultra-low energy consumption results from the cumulative savings amassed from the individual contributing factors. The following functions and accessories provide direct energy savings as well as added product convenience.
Functions and accessories that save energy
Regular defrosting can save energy. Liebherr's NoFrost function defrosts the freezer automatically. As soon as a layer of ice has formed on the evaporator, a sensor triggers the defrosting process. The fan switches off, the evaporator pipes are warmed and the ice melts, without increasing the temperature in the freezer compartment itself. In this way a NoFrost appliance stays ice-free, its energy consumption level stays constant, and you don't have to trouble yourself with laborious defrosting.
The energy consumption of many NoFrost appliances can be reduced by up to 50 percent by using the Vario energy-saving panel (available as an accessory). If you do not need to use the entire freezer compartment, simply ‘switch off’ unused drawers by sliding a Vario energy-saving panel into position; this will reduce the volume that needs to be cooled.
Precise control system
Our advanced electronics system helps to ensure that the appliance is only using as much energy as it actually needs to. Temperature sensors measure both interior and ambient temperatures, and the control system adjusts the compressor speed accordingly. It also detects if the door is open and automatically switches off the fan. Should the door be left open for more than 60 seconds, an alarm sounds to ensure that your food remains safe and protected.
When it comes to energy-saving lighting, LEDs are the obvious choice; they have a long-lasting life and a low energy consumption level. Liebherr has therefore developed its very own LED lighting concept, which optimally illuminates the interior and creates a very pleasant effect.
Liebherr appliances described as SmartGrid-ready can be connected to intelligent power grids using a retrofit module. The underlying principle being that, during hours when the electricity price is low, the freezer creates a cold reserve that is then utilised during the ‘expensive’ electricity hours. Furthermore, these appliances automatically select and use the cheapest electricity tariff. In the long-term, it will be possible to reduce energy costs by up to ten percent, using this system. Intelligent power grids are still projects for the future but, with a SmartGrid-ready appliance, you will be prepared for them when they arrive.
Our fridge-freezers come with DuoCooling, two separate cooling circuits that precisely and independently control the temperatures in the different compartments. Furthermore, as there is no air exchange between the refrigeration and freezer compartments, odour transfer cannot occur and stored food is protected from drying out.
Good insulation plays a major part in saving energy as it ensures that the cold remains precisely where it belongs – in the appliance interior! We therefore continually develop our insulation materials and work on new compositions. By optimising insulating properties we are able to offer appliances with maximum usable-interior capacity, as well as highly effective insulation.
