The refrigerator as a design object

Open-plan kitchens require design-pieces to interact with their environment.
Lifestyle, as a concept, has developed far beyond fashion, accessories, travel, cars etc. to encompass cooking and enjoying food with family and friends. Nowadays, in many homes, the kitchen is not just the work-hub but also the centre of life - a place to eat, chat with friends, and even hold parties.
Liebherr appliances, whether integrated or freestanding, never fail to inspire awe and interest with their innovative interior features and high-quality, stylish looks. We develop all our new designs ourselves, in state-of-the-art development centres, at our various production sites. And, when developing new technologies, our customers’ wishes and requirements are always at the forefront of our minds.
Awards and accolades
Our appliances are regularly recognised, receiving awards for their high design quality and superb innovation, by the likes of the Red Dot Award, the Plus X Award, the iF product design award, the Interior Innovation Award, and the Kitchen Innovation Award from the Lifecare Initiative.

Cutting edge design-visions
Design and product development always occur within the context of social and societal trends. The latest trends, such as individualisation, increasing life expectancy, health awareness, mobility, digital networking and urbanisation, shape our consumers’ needs and these are consistently incorporated into our product development.

CoolVision – looking to the future
Refrigerators will continue to be defined by their main purpose, which is to deliver innovative cooling technologies that are being constantly improved upon. To develop key ideas for the future we have to have vision. Liebherr's CoolVision range represents a playful approach: experimenting with colours, shapes and materials, and collaborating with designers, artists and emerging talents. Real innovations arise from flexibility and the willingness to view technology and materials from a different perspective. Based on this understanding we develop our ideas and design studies, and present them at trade fairs such as the IFA or Futura.

Putting designs to the test
Liebherr products are a great investment. To maintain our very high quality standards, we evaluate every new design on the basis of its benefits and user friendliness, with our customers' needs foremost in our minds. Does the appliance appeal to consumers? Is the design in line with current trends yet also able to stand the test of time? Is the material suitable for everyday use? Before an appliance goes into series production, we subject its design and every component to numerous tests. As a result, our appliances are visually pleasing and made from superb-quality materials, and they are also highly suitable for daily use, easy-to-clean and extremely easy-to-use.

Uncompromising perfection down to the smallest details
In the design and technology of our fridge-freezers and compact appliances, we always place emphasis on the small yet crucial details. An example that shows our uncompromising adherence to the combination of utility and design is our patented bar handle, where form and function have come together perfectly. The stainless steel handle has a highly ergonomic design and its sophisticated mechanism makes opening the refrigerator door much easier. In addition, to ensure the high-quality visual appearance of the handle's stainless steel, we have developed a special surface finish called SmartSteel, which protects the steel against fingerprints and makes it particularly easy-to-clean.
Convenience

Playing with texture and colour
Liebherr regularly brings out DesignEditions that are characterised, amongst other things, by their special finishes and the materials they feature. All of these editions can be seamlessly integrated into the home thanks to their classic design with lasting appeal, and they are certain to become highlights thanks to their combination of colour, form and material.

More than just a refrigerator
A functional highlight: those who regard the kitchen as an open-plan living area expect their refrigerator to blend with their living environment – and rightly so, we believe. During our product development, we consider the effect the appliance will have as it interacts with the materials, shapes and proportions it will encounter in the home. This results in Liebherr appliances that enhance living areas with well-balanced lighting concepts, quality materials and harmonious design.

Interior lighting effect
The interior lighting is used to evenly illuminate the appliance and we have developed a special lighting concept that gives greater visual warmth than conventional LEDs so that stored food is immersed in a pleasing light. The lighting concept is space-efficiently integrated into the inner compartment. On appliances with glass doors, the interior lighting can be adjusted and thus used as atmospheric ambient lighting.

Appliances with specialised dimensions
Our compact appliances offer additional storage space for drinks and optimum storage conditions for cigars. Whether freestanding or wall-mounted, they are designed to be practical furnishings that flexibly integrate refrigeration into your home. In stark contrast to these are our voluminous Side-by-Side stainless steel fridge-freezers, real centrepieces that combine technical innovation with elegant lines. Some models feature an integral wine safe with a clear-glass fronted door that creates a sophisticated contrast to the overall stainless steel frontage. Another design centrepiece for larger kitchens and living areas is the Frenchdoor fridge-freezer. With large, handy freezer drawers and sweeping wing doors to the refrigerator, it brings modern technology and design to the home.

Wine cabinet interiors feature natural beech shelves.
Natural materials in the interior
Wood is a natural and extremely durable material that creates a homely atmosphere, and so we use it inside our glass-door appliances. Shelves made from natural beech wood hold the red, white and rosé wines stored in our wine cabinets, and Spanish cedar shelving ensures perfect storage conditions in our humidor. Many of the interior fittings in our refrigerators and freezers are made of scratch-resistant, shatterproof safety glass, which can be conveniently cleaned in a dishwasher.
