House T by Makoto Tanijiri

Nestled in the bustling city of Tokyo stands an all-concrete urban home. House T is home to one of Japan’s renowned architect Makoto Tanijiri, which he had personally designed and directed. Basing the theme as “A cave-like place in the city”, the house is boxed in with concrete walls to shut out the busyness of the city and create a private space. The exterior design was constructed in a way that allows Makoto to control the amount of natural light coming into the home. This creates a high contrast of lightness and darkness to the interior which helps highlight the fine details of the interior.Photos beautifully taken by architectural photographer Toshiyuki Yano.

Makoto Tanijiri is the founder of design and architectural company, SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE. Besides housing design, he has managed projects in interior design, commercial and public spaces and landscapes.
