Help! My fridge stinks!

Cleaning your fridge is easy, and the good news is you don’t need any expensive cleaners or disinfectants - warm water and a little washing-up liquid are all you need.

  • Preparation

Remove all food, switch off and unplug the appliance if possible, remove any dust, and defrost.

  • Inside

Removable parts should be cleaned with warm water and washing up liquid, or many can go in the dishwasher. Wipe the inside with warm water and washing up liquid.

  • Outside

Clean with a soft clean cloth and a little water if necessary - do not use stainless steel cleaner on SmartSteel as this will impair the coating.

Odours from the refrigerator are not always pleasant. But it gets even more unpleasant when the bad smell from the refrigerator can neither be located nor identified.

There are a few simple steps you can take to prevent bad smells from developing in the first place and to remove any unpleasant smells that are already there.

Quick tip: Get rid of bad smells quickly

If you get an unpleasant smell when you open the refrigerator door or if your appliance smells even when it is closed, you should act quickly. These two tips will help quickly and use existing household products:

1. Put a bowl of coffee in the refrigerator. This may absorb the bad smell. Do not use concentrated detergents.

2. Place a shallow bowl open in the refrigerator with a few tablespoons of baking powder or baking soda in (both work equally well).
